VARINDIA IT Forum Completes a Successful Decade!

Kalinga Digital Media (P) Ltd. (KDMPL) has recently organised VARINDIA IT Forum 2012 in the capital, which also marked the completion of 10 years of the event. Known for meeting its promise of giving the industry a platform to share ideas and views on the trends, VARINDIA IT Forum 2012 witnessed gathering of more than 400 people in both the sessions.


The lamp lighting ceremony of the first session, marked the opening of the event which was  graced by the Honorable Chief Guest Professor SV Raghavan, Chief Architect & Chairman, Technical advisory committee, NKN; Prof. Raj Sekhar Pillai, Principal Secretary, Science & Technology, Govt. of Kerala and Tarun Malik, Director, Product Marketing & Strategy among others. The afternoon session was attended by more than 170 principals and teachers from various K-12, MCD and Private schools from across Delhi & NCR.

There was thought sharing by the honorable guests Professor Raghavan and Professor Pillai on the challenges of today’s education sector. They emphasized on the fact that ICT is an enabling tool and not a replacement for teachers. This was followed by Corporate Presentations from HP India, Mindlance, Epson, NComputing and Microsoft India. The spokespersons from the corporates talked about their offerings for ICT sector along with some success stories too.

Panel Discussion on "ICT in Education" was the most awaited phase of the afternoon session. Moderated by Sujit Panigrahi, CTO, Convergen Technologies, the panelist included Dr. DK Pandey, Principal, NC Jindal Public School; Praloy Kumar Dey, VP, Sales, Mindlance India (P) Ltd; Himanshu Seth, Country Manager- PSG, HP India Sales (P) Ltd.; Tarun Malik, Director, Product Marketing & Strategy - Microsoft India; Altaf Halde, MD, Kaspersky Security; Monali Handa, Director - Marketing, NComputing and Kirti Tripathi, Sr.Technology Integrator, Amity Group Schools.

The evening session started with the auspicious lamp lighting which was attended by Honorable Chief Guest Shri Ramesh Chandra Misra, Secretary, Ministry of Personnel, Public Greivances and Pensions, Govt. of India.; Shri N Ravi Shankar, Administrator, USOF, Govt of India; Shri Ravi Saxena, Addl. Chief Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of Gujarat; Vipin Tyagi, Director- C-Dot, Govt. of India; V.L. Kantha Rao, Director (Infrastructure and E-Services), NeGD – Govt. of India.

The evening session witnessed the guests speaking about fibre optic, NOFM, mission mode projects and traced the evolution of lifestyle and how digitisation has influenced it.

The evening was marked by the release of VARINDIA's first IT & Telecom coffee table book by Shri. Misra in the presence of various Government heads and some popular brand managers of the industry who made it to the evening from across the country for this momentous occasion.

The book launch was followed by the annual award function, where there were winners as the Most Trusted Companies and Brand of Excellence for the year 2011-12. There were eight winners announced as Most Trusted companies namely, HCL Info systems, Trend Micro, Canon India, Polycom, Oracle, Cisco India, IBM India and LG Electronics. Dell India, Zicom Securities, iomega, HP India, Mindlance, Checkpoint, VM Ware and Digilink (Schneider) were announced as the Brand of Excellence for 2011-12 based on the online voting conducted on VARINDIA website www.varindia.com. AL Jagannath, was chosen as the Marketer of the Year.

Last but not the least, the event culminated with a power- packed panel discussion on "Best Practices for India going Digital". Moderated by Shri Ravi Saxena, Addl. Chief Secretary, Govt. of Gujarat. The panel comprised of  Vipin Tyagi, Director-C-Dot, Government of India; Aman Nagar, National Head – Government, Vertical Personal Systems Group, HP India; Aneesh Dhawan, Regional Head, VM Ware India; B.K. Panda, Addl. Commissioner, IT - EPFO, Govt. of India; Altaf Halde, M.D- Kaspersky Lab; Santosh Subramaniam, Sr. Manager, Projects – Ncomputing and Sameer Choudhury, DGM -IT, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.

HP India announced three winners based on a lucky draw from the visitors visiting its product display booth.The event concluded on an optimistic note of VARINDIA successfully conducting many milestone practices and taking the event to higher levels in the days to come.

The moderator, Sujit Panigrahi, opened the floor by throwing questions to the panel like, Is ICT adding the desired value to the Education sector? Does ICT help in increasing the Productivity of students, teachers and institute as a whole? How ICT helps make Collaborative learning a beautiful experience? All agreed that ICT is not a threat for the existence of teachers. Only teachers can teach as they know the learners and technology is just a means that enables them to reach larger student base. With integration of ICT not only concepts can be taught better but it even smoothens the back office work of these institutes. And this time saved is used in other development and creative works.

The moderator, Ravi Saxena, asked the panelists to share their views on the citizen services in India and its impact. All agreed that the employees should have access to devices in order to avail the facility. We have to put the vision and the action plan. We should use people within the govt. department on thinking creatively and innovatively on how services have to be delivered. Deployment of ICT should aim at getting closer to the citizens. Moderator concluded by saying that if ICT does not reach the masses then it is going to cause much larger divide than what the industrial revolution did a 100 years ago.
